Hello everyone!

Sorry for the radio silence here in the NEWS portion --
I am revamping how I will utilize this space, particularly with the pause that COVID has forced into all of our lives.

I am please to announce that I am now a professor in the Honors Department at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. I teach two courses there, "The Intersection of Art and Science: Fantastical Mergings" and "The Quiet One: The Lost Art of Musing."

I have also extended my studio space so more work is on the way! I am still collaborating with Ecovative Design and have a new series of fungal sculptures in the works.

I hope you have all been well and stay tuned for more work!
Feel free to follow my progress more on instagram: @CVPetersonStudios

Until later, cheers!

Friday the 26th of February I attended the most wonderful Comic Exhibition. Swiss comic artist Anja Wicki had a show at her residency apartment to show the work she had created over the last four months. Her work has subtly deep story lines depicted in one of the most elegant styles of drawing I have seen. It was an intimate, welcoming atmosphere and I was honored to have attended.

Eva Meyer-Keller performing "Death is Certain" at Links Hall

Eva's piece was a dark comedy that had us in the room both laughing, and wondering how we could be laughing at these reenactments off murders. Her artist talk at 6018 N Gallery was equally fascinating.
It was such a pleasure to meet you, Eva.
Strawberries have tender skin, and meat. Their juice is red like blood. When you treat them like humans sometimes treat other humans, then they become human themselves or at least animate objects, which invite you to identify yourself with them. Inspired by fairy tales, where sometimes objects come to life and so become a projection screen for your own experiences and fantasies. In the performance „Death is Certain“ Eva Meyer-Keller has installed sweet Strawberries as her protagonists. The stalks are removed from the fruit, but they are not washed. Instead they are being killed. She takes care of this business manually, in a way which turns the everyday into something brutal. The viewer is reminded of deaths from films, but also the reality of executions, how they really happen: associations from individual and collective experience in the face of sweet death at the kitchen table.

Broken Red Balloon Dog-- was an amazing performance reading/lecture held tonight at the Chicago Cultural Center. A night of 5 writers having their writings on things not worth writing about cold read by 5 performative readers who had never met them before.
Laughter, rapt attention, a lone snorer... It was an amazing night introduced by the equally amazing Matthew Goulash!

Elevate: DJ Sadie Woods at The House of Blues!

Sound artist Sadie Woods DJs tonight at The House of Blues in Chicago! I am very excited to attend this bad bitch's event! (See Sadie! Not quite "the baddest bitch" but close <3)
Come out and support! It will be an epic time. Drinks and dancing abound!

For a first post this is a really awesome event. I'm make a point of supporting all of my fellow artists regardless of discipline. Only going to performance exhibitions, while amazing, would limit the amazing opportunities that Chicago's art scene has to offer!
