CV Peterson (Eau Claire/Chicago) is a multidisciplinary artist who blends scientific inquiry with artistic expression, examining how human innovation, economic pressures, and ecological harm intersect. Peterson works across sculpture, installation, painting, and BioArt, often using materials that carry ecological and industrial histories. This includes fungal‑based processes alongside synthetic and repurposed materials such as plastics and construction remnants. Through these juxtapositions, Peterson investigates how sustainability is unevenly accessed and how environmental responsibility is shaped.
Peterson has exhibited in prominent venues across the globe, including the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, BIONEERS Conference, Terrain Biennial, and the CICA Museum (South Korea). Their work has toured Europe with Universal Sea, and they have participated in international exhibitions at the Shanghai Zhu Qizhan Art Museum (China) and the Nobel Conference on Climate Change at Gustavus Adolphus College. Peterson’s residency experiences include the Arteles Creative Center in Finland and the Buena Vista Artist Colony in Georgia.
Peterson holds an MFA and BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College, where they graduated magna cum laude and were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. They combines academic rigor with hands-on experimentation. Beyond their studio practice, Peterson teaches at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and is the Founder and Director of Envisage Art Retreat, an immersive space for artistic reflection, research, and project development.
