Hydraulic Agriculture: performance for video and relics
(2015)
“And in a knotted world of vibrant matter, to harm one section of the web may very well be to harm oneself. Such an enlightened or expanded notion of self-interest is good for humans.”
― Jane Bennett, The Force of Things: Steps Toward an Ecology of Matter
Rural settings blur the boundaries of nature and human developed spaces. As we cultivate crops to sustain our ecosystem, other non-humancentric ecosystems creep in and settle in the cracks. No matter how much consideration we give to manipulating the landscape there is a “liveliness” to all matter that affects the environment in unrecognized ways.
