I hold a conviction.
A conviction that humanity’s legacy after our eradication from the earth will be non-biodegradable material.
I have set into motion a series of works that follow a trajectory of this future I perceive for the Earth, an era I have dubbed the Mykitas Epoch.
Through the mediums of BioArt, performance art, and immersive installations I explore issues of human-caused environmental decay.
We are willfully collaborating in the destruction of our environment and contributing to the evolution of a plastic-based ecosystem.
“Mykitas Epoch” is a fanciful abstract series that involves a plastic-based world where fungi have evolved into the next sentient beings that inhabit the planet.
It is a series that combines art with scientific research investigating fungi and microbes that have gained the abilities to decompose plastic or replace non-biodegradable products completely.
No matter how much consideration we give to manipulating the environment there is a “liveliness” to all matter that affects ecosystems in unrecognized ways.
My art, while inviting and whimsical, does not expunge the environmentally dangerous qualities of these materials or erase the fact that our planet is already naturally adapting to our non-biodegradable waste.
I aim to bring an awareness to how accustomed and reliant we are on non-biodegradable materials.
Every day we use these materials not only to sustain us but to build the future for our successors.
